A BRIEF HISTORY OF US

How it all Began

Originally started by Jack Alford Davey in the early 1960’s as a plumbing and heating business operating from a premises on Glanyrafon Road, Pencoed, before it was turned into a hardware store and merchant in 1968.

The business was run by Jack until his sudden death in 1975 aged just 54, leaving his son, a 17-year-old John to take over the running of the business in very difficult circumstances. John continued to run the business successfully until the lease on the premises at Glanyrafon Road was terminated in 1983.

Fortunately, soon after a new location in the centre of Pencoed known as the railway sidings was bought from the railway board and the business reopened in 1984.

From there the business expanded year on year, adding Delivery vehicles and more staff along the way. The business was incorporated as a private limited company on the 2nd March 2000, changing its name in the process from J A Davey Builders Merchants to John Davey Builders Merchants Ltd.

In 2007 Johns son, Rhys, joined the business, making him the third generation of the family to do so.

The business has grown and changed greatly in the last decade, from going fully computerised in 2013, to being fully rebranded in 2015 and now the creation of an online store enabling us to take your order at a time that suits you, day and night.

That officially makes us open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Thank you to all of our customers who have supported us from the begining and have helped make us who we are today.

Here’s to the next 60 years…….
